A time for mourning; a time for joy

Dear Church,

There is, we know a time for mourning, and a time for joy. At the end of our school year these two emotions will surely find a place together in our hearts.

In talking with many of our children, school parents and staff who know Mr. Swanson (as well as having the honor of working with him) there is no doubt in my mind that as he retires from his position as Principal of Saint Patrick School we will be losing a true friend, who was so much more than “just a principal.” We are losing a dedicated principal who was a “father” to countless young kids, far more than just to his own family. He has been a wonderful role-model, friend, educator, and leader who, with a huge heart, had room for everyone especially our children at Saint Patrick School so of course we are sad!

But, thankfully woven into the strong foundation Mr. Swanson has established over the course of his many years with us for our school, we now welcome a new Principal, Mr. Anthony Fontana. Mr. Fontana was formerly the principal of Mater Christi School in Burlington, Vermont. Through the interview process for a new principal Mr. Fontana demonstrated his abilities as an educational leader. His personality, knowledge, abilities, work ethics, and dedication to the children and community are clearly evident. He has a proven record for exceeding organizational goals, and the ability to lead successful school change and improvement programs (the only issue being he was formerly a Pitcher for the Red Sox organization.)

Mr. Swanson we wish you “fair winds and following seas” as you begin your well-deserved retirement and with a grateful heart we say…thank you! At the same time, we wish a callout to Mr. Fontana, “welcome aboard” to a wonderful school and vibrant parish.

Sincerely,
Fr. Mario
