An Update for July 2018

Dear Church

First and Foremost, I am not asking for money!!! Whew!!!!!! I just want to “keep you in the loop” as you may see future construction taking place. We will be replacing the entire Parish roof, the Rectory roof as well as the “new” School roof. All three of these roofs leak, which compromises the integrity of these structures. We diligently tried to pursue legal recourse for the Parish Roof (as the roof shingles used were “40” year shingles...however after only 12 years they are all curling)! Unfortunately, the architect, the company that produced the shingles and the roofer who installed them are all out of business! Oh the joy! However, because of your generosity in the weekly offerings, the memorials, the Tree of Life dedication and carefully managing our expenses over the years we are able to make these necessary repairs without going into debt. The recent repairs to the Church, School and Rectory as well as the renovation projects we have completed or will be undertaking have ensured the continued stability of the Parish for years to come.

During the remainder of the summer months and into the fall we will also be reviewing the following:

  1. Obtaining estimates to repair the Church gutter seams, gutters and repairing/replacing the fascia boards.
  2. Obtaining estimates to repair or replace all the stained glass window casements in the upper church as they are rotted (especially the main stained glass window over the altar) and are in danger of falling out.
  3. Obtaining estimates to repair the mortar around the foundation of the parish center (especially the older portion of the parish center which allows water to leak into the lower church) as well as the concrete walkways around the parish.
  4. Obtaining estimates to repair or replace the sound system in the upper church.
  5. Obtaining estimates to repair or replace the Pastor who should have never left the Navy.

With council and maintenance oversight, we agreed the most urgent items, those that ensure the safety of our parish community or impact the use of our facilities will be given immediate attention. Under the leadership and guidance of Mr. Paul Stocks, our maintenance Supervisor, we will develop a timeline for improvements and a corresponding budget as our finances will allow. I will continue to keep everyone in the loop as we schedule further repairs and improvements. Thank you once again for all that you do for our great Parish of Saint Patrick! Our Lady of Mount Carmel pray for us!!!
