The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Solemnity ~ June 18, 2017

Jesus’ promise to be with us always is fulfilled in the Eucharist. His words in today’s gospel are testimony of this promise - Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him (her). Each time we receive Holy Communion, Christ comes to us. How aware are we of Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist? Do we open our hearts to him? In a sermon on the Eucharist, St. Augustine urged his parishioners, “be what you see, receive what you are” – the Body of Christ! It is to this truth that we are that we respond, “Amen.” Let us pray that with each reception of Holy Communion we are more and more the Body of Christ.
