Today’s Gospel gives us a picture of Jesus that may make us uncomfortable. Jesus knew well the wrongs and injustices that were prevalent in some temple practices. Let us remember the wrath of Jesus against those who made it difficult, if not impossible, for people to be welcome in the house of God. As we strive to become better at being evangelizing parishes, is there anything about our church/parish life -- a snobbishness, an exclusiveness, a coldness, a lack of welcome -- which might keep the seeking stranger away? Lent gives us a good opportunity to make the necessary changes to those behaviors.
