Blessing of Grandparents
I am the grandfather of a year-and-a-half old little girl who is the joy of my life. She calls me "Saba," which is the name for grandfather in Hebrew. At her age it comes out as "Baba." She runs to me and wraps her arms around my neck and says, "Baba!"
Let us bless our Grandparents on this day. For without them there would be less joy in the hearts of children:
Good and gracious God, you have given us the gift of children, who in turn give us the gift of grandchildren. Bless our children and help them to be good parents to our grandchildren.
Let the little children come to us with arms wide open. Help us to open our hearts as wide as those little arms that wrap around our necks.
Protect them and their parents from worry and stress. And give us as many days of life as possible to hear those little voices cry, "Saba!"
We ask all this in Jesus' name who is your Son and lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.
Amen.
