The story of Elisha, in today’s first reading, is a reminder of the importance of hospitality. Hospitality involves openness to what friends and strangers bring to us. It implies attentiveness to the other and the needs of the other. As we consider the ministry of hospitality, we are called to heighten our awareness of others so that we can carry on the ministry of Jesus. Is there a stranger or newcomer at Mass this weekend? Is the hospitality we offer a means of service to others and to Christ in them?
