  • From Homeless to Nuclear Scientist

    Wednesday Aug 24, 2022 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

A Deacon’s Inspiring Journey of Faith

    Wednesday, August 24
    7:00 PM
    St. Florence Parish

Deacon Tam Tran HeadshotDeacon Tam Tran knows what it is like to be at rock bottom.  He was homeless, living on the streets, starving, and without love and affection.  And he was only six years old!

Come hear Deacon Tam’s inspirational life story of growing up very poor in Vietnam, asked to leave home at age 6 after his father died because his mother could not feed all six of her children, and learning to survive on the streets.  You will hear the amazing twists and turns of his life beginning with working odd jobs to survive — often going hungry, trying to educate himself by looking through the window of the school, and eventually coming to America, and becoming a nuclear scientist.  Learn how God became a part of his life and why, after being raised Buddhist, he became a Catholic and eventually a deacon in the Archdiocese of Boston.

    Deacon Tam Tran First Day

First day in America, Dec. 12, 1971

Over the last 45 years, besides working as a nuclear scientist, Deacon Tam was a college professor in chemistry and mathematics, a general manager for a division of a public company on the New York Stock Exchange and later becoming their vice president of merger and acquisition. He is now President & CEO of Reliable Energy Group, a multi-million-dollar company that specializes in renewable resources for biomass fuel. And during his amazing career, he became a Catholic deacon and a chaplain at the University of Massachusetts in Boston.

Deacon Tam will share why, despite the hardships he faced growing up, he has a strong faith in God. Even though he didn’t see God’s hand early in hislife, he now sees how God was with him all the time on his journey.
