Friday Nov 1, 2019

  • Mass of Remembrance

    Friday Nov 1, 2019 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

November is a month dedicated to praying for the deceased. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that “from the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic sacrifice, so that thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God” (CCC, 1032). We carry on this rich tradition of praying for the dead with the celebration of the Mass being the highest form of prayer we can offer for our loved ones.

Please join us for a special Mass of Remembrance on Friday evening, November 1st at 7:00 pm. On this commemoration of the Feast of All Souls, when the Church remembers all the faithful departed, we of Saint Patrick Parish will remember our own beloved dead. As we gather and pray, we will announce the names of those who were buried from this parish over the past year, and we will pray for all those whose names are inscribed in the Book of Remembrance.

All are welcome to join us for this special commemoration followed by light refreshments in Our Lady of Providence Hall.

Please join the discussion at the Saint Agnes Parish Center, 186 Woburn Street, Reading MA, on Sunday November 10, 2019 from 7:00-8:30 pm.

The Sanctity of Life Ministry seeks to promote the sacredness of life from conception to natural death within our parishes and our community. We invite you to attend a presentation given by Archdiocese of Boston’s Initiative for Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning.

While initiatives in favor of doctor-prescribed suicide have been and will continue to be important topics for political debate, the real questions behind these issues are moral and human, the challenges all of us must face in the actual process of dying, especially when this happens to include the dependency, the helplessness, and the pain that so often accompany terminal illnesses. How are we able to see even this aspect of humanity as an opportunity to cherish God's gift of life? What are the directives that our Church offers?

Our presenter will be M.C. Sullivan, JD, MTS, RN, and Chief Healthcare Ethicist. The presentation will include a question and answer session.

  • Remembrance and Healing for Pregnancy and Infant Loss

    Saturday Nov 16, 2019 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM

Miscarriage, stillbirth, and the death of an infant are tragic, painful losses that many people carry in their hearts. Loved ones and friends often do not understand how to help console us in our grief. Focusing on the spirituality of our grieving can help greatly. Christ offers us His strength and hope in the promise of the Resurrection. Our very presence provides comfort to one another, some of whom may otherwise suffer in silence.

On Saturday, November 16, at 5:30 pm, Fr. Mario Orrigo will lead us in a service of recognition and healing for anyone - parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt, uncle, friend - who is grieving the loss of a pregnancy or the death of an infant. All adults are welcome. Please R.S.V.P. to Patrice Fitzpatrick 781-438-0200 if you plan to join us and for more information.
