Misericordia Project
Education of the poorest in Kigali, Rwanda
Fr. Marcel Uwineza, S.J. is once again appealing to you all to support Misercordia Project; an initiative he started in 2012 together with a group of seven committed lay Rwandan Catholics to help educate children from the poorest and most vulnerable families (mostly girls), in the outskirts of Kigali in Rwanda. The project contributed to their formal education and professional training by paying their tuition and basic school needs. Misericordia targets mostly post-primary schoolgirls and the youth who find themselves in the streets because of poverty.
Since I {Fr. Marcel Uwineza} lost my parents, two brothers and a sister to the genocide in Rwanda in 1994 and I was able to study because of the generosity of others, your support will enable me to fulfill a dream dear to my heart; offering capabilities and a reason to hope to those whole reasons for living are very thin.
Here is a story of my life: “Over the last 25 years after the genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda, God has let me through a school of forgiveness. One day I met one of the killers of my brothers and sister. Upon seeing me, he came toward me. I thought he was coming to kill me too. But I could not believe what happened. As if in a movie, he knelt before me and asked me to forgive him. After a time of confusion, asking myself what was happening, and by a force which I could not describe, I too him, embraced him and said: ‘I forgive you; the Lord has been good to me.’ Ever since that moment, I have felt free.” Marcel Uwineza, “On Christian Hope,” in America (April 4-11, 2016).
God enables this power of forgiveness and education is central to this knowledge. Please be generous to support my dream to set young people free from poverty that has come as part of our tragic history. We need at least $10,000 for nine children per year.
Here is a brief story of Josephine Uwimpuhwe, one of our female beneficiaries: Misericordia paid school fees and provided me a sewing machine. Now I am working, using the sewing machine. I care for my family! I pay rent for our small house! I am grateful to Misericordia Group, without them I do not know what my life would have been! I pray that God pays back what you are doing for vulnerable children!
Thank you for your generosity. May God bless and be favorable to you!
