Father Mario

In loving memory of our beloved Pastor,
Fr. Mario J. Orrigo, II
June 13, 1963 - August 29, 2023

Saint Patrick Parish in Stoneham sorrowfully announces the death of its beloved Pastor, Father Mario J. Orrigo. Fortified by the Sacraments of the Church and supported by the prayers of thousands in his last months of life, Father Mario departed this world in the early hours of the morning of August 29, 2023, the Feast of the Passion of Saint John the Baptist.

We grieve the loss of our extraordinary Pastor, but are filled with joyful hope in the power of Jesus Christ’s Resurrection. We are profoundly grateful for Father Mario’s priesthood, friendship, and devoted pastoral charity. The people of Saint Patrick Parish powerfully encountered the love of Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, in and through the priestly life and ministry of Father Mario. With confident hope, we look forward to the day when we will see him again.

In one of his last messages to the people of Saint Patrick Parish, Father Mario implored everyone to pray the Rosary every day and to wear the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. We now entrust this good priest of Jesus Christ to the Mercy of our Heavenly Father, and we implore the Blessed Virgin Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, to console those who mourn and to escort her devoted son, Father Mario, into the eternal banquet of Heaven.

May he rest in peace. Amen.

Father Mario lay in state at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central Street in Stoneham on Friday, September 1st, 2023 from 2pm to 8pm.

A Funeral Mass was offered for Father Mario on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023 at 11am. The Funeral Mass will be televised on Stoneham TV and YouTube Live. Links are available below.

Father Sijo’s Homily at Father Mario’s Month’s Mind Mass

Rev. Sijo’s homily

From the Family of Fr. Mario Orrigo

Dear Church,

Our family wants to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your outpouring of love and devotion for my son, Fr. Mario. The Wake and Mass were beautiful, and the attendance was truly remarkable. Many of you stood for hours awaiting your turn to visit and pray for Father Mario. What a testimony to him!

We could not believe all of your wonderful stories on how Father Mario inspired, helped, and preached God’s word to assist you with your personal issues. We were truly amazed and so very proud. We thank you for sharing these stories.

Although we can’t believe Father Mario is not here with us, just knowing your love for him and his love for all of you, have helped to lift our sorrow. We know God must have wanted a warrior to take him from us, but we selfishly and tearfully wanted him to remain.

We appreciate all of your letters, sympathy and Mass cards, and donations in honor of Father Mario. They were all so wonderful and very moving. Lastly, and with deepest gratitude we wanted to thank Cardinal Sean, Bishop Mark and all of the priests and deacons along with the St. Patrick’s wonderful office staff for arranging the ceremonies and for the continuous assistance and love they provided Father Mario throughout his years as Pastor.

With warmest regards and love,
Mrs. Ella Orrigo and Family
